Traditional poker tournaments make sure to balance the tables over the duration of the tournament. Players are moved and tables are split over time to ensure that at all times every table is as full as possible. Play continues until a winner is determined.
A Shootout poker tournament differs from this formula in both play style and structure. In a Shootout, there are several rounds of single-table tournaments and winners from each individual table progress to the second round.
Here’s an example of a Shootout tournament with 100 entrants. Ten tables with ten players each will begin the tournament for round one. Let’s say the top three from each table, thus leaving 30 players to continue on to round two. The amount varies based on the tournament – check the tournament details in the Poker Room to see the winner and payout structure.
Using the example above, the top three players from each table will progress to the next round, meaning a total of 30 players remain. Round two begins with three tables of ten, and once again the top three players of each table will continue to the next round. Round three will then leave nine players competing at the final table!
